Doug has been a PGA Member for over 50 years and is one of a select band of PGA Professionals of being a 'PGA Master Professional'. This is the highest status of PGA Membership and is awarded through The PGA's APAL process of identifying PGA Professionals who have gone on to demonstrate higher levels of knowledge and skill in a variety of roles.

Doug has been a Player, a PGA Club Professional and more latterly a Retailer - creating and developing one of, if not, the largest golf retail operations in the UK - the Doug McClelland Golf Superstore at Silvermere.

Doug has employed, developed, nurtured and guided 100s of PGA Professions over the years - many of whom, have gone to achieve their own success in the golf industry and beyond, coming out from under Doug's wing.

Teaching
Doug has taught and helped many golfers of all ages and abilities over the years most notably Charlotte Wild. Charlotte got down to +3 handicap, won the English Ladies Open, went on to represent England before turning Pro and finished leading English player two years in a row on the LET Access Tour.

Peter Hedges and Doug represented England together in 1969 at youth level and have been firm friends ever since. Peter went on to many top class victories culminating in selection for the Walker Cup team.
Business Career
Formed Doug McClelland Golf Stores in 1984 and was Managing Director until 2014 when merging with Left Handed Golf Limited and Internet Golf Store Limited.

I have known Doug for 36 years and during that time, I was privileged to see his business skills and drive turn the Silvermere golf complex into one of the finest golf facilities in Europe.
His golfing prowess in the 70’s is well recorded and his ability to go from a full time touring golf professional to a successful businessman is credit to his adaptability for any situation.
Doug’s ‘KISS’ style in business is the main driver of his success, he does the simple things very well and applied a common sense approach on a daily bases with his staff whist MD at Silvermere.
Doug was Chairman and co founder of the Euroselect group for 7 years and I have been fortunate to witness firsthand working alongside Doug in my role as ‘Administrator‘, how the group has flourished with Doug’s guidance and wisdom at the helm.
Finally, whilst Doug is extremely well known in golfing circles, he has a wealth of knowledge in many aspects of life and his enthusiasm for business and life experiences in general is infectious, a true gentleman and friend.

Doug’s annual Golf day, over the course of many years, has raised £750,000 for several worthy causes and prominent charities, plus two Sunshine Coaches for The Variety Club Golf Society of Great Britain.

Aside from being one of my best friends in the sporting world, Doug Mclelland is one of the best event organisers I’ve ever worked with. His golf days in particular are top notch, his attention to detail is first-class and his warm character always ensures the days are something special.
Tony Cottee & myself host the ‘Annual Bobby Moore Golf Day’ at Kingswood Golf Club where 28 ex-professional footballers play golf & mix with members of the public. Doug organises the whole event as well as his own 'Doug's Golf Day’. They are both recognised as two of the best days on the golfing calendar.
